A SENIOR AND A JUNIOR STUDENT FROM THE PHILIPPINE SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL – Bicol Region Campus (PSHS-BRC) were among the members of the Philippine team that competed in the 4th International Olympiad in Astronomy held on Sept. 12-21, 2010 in Beijing, China.

Said students were Kenneth Anthony Roquid, fourth year, and Christoper Jan Landicho, third year student.

Roquid and Landicho, along with fellow students from the National Capital Region, Davao, and Rizal, qualified to join the international level after topping the national eliminations on February 19-20 at the University of the Philippines National Institute of Mathematics and Science Education (UP-NISMED), Quezon City.

Approximately 24 countries joined in the competition which was divided into two parts: theoretical and practical.

“It was really hard. We have only a few professional astronomers in the country and the education given to students from other countries was more rigid compared to that which we received,” Landicho said.

Mr. Erik John Marmol, physics and earth science teacher of the campus, coached both Roquid and Landicho.
