Two scholars of the Philippine Science High School – Bicol Region Campus won in their respective events during the Regional Secondary Schools Press Conference (RSSPC) at Marcial O. Rañola Memorial School (MORMS), Guinobatan, Albay, Nov. 9-12, 2010.
The English team was composed of Patrick Leo Rebato, Jorriel Balbedina, Daniel Oliver Tondo, Czarina Nicole Macatingrao, Jan Mae Tresvalles, Abigail Abragan, and Vanessa gail Borja, while the Filipino team was made up of Anthony Felix Abogado, Kristian Leonard Orante, Miguel Carmelo Artiaga, Kristine Joy Belgica, Sandy Thea San Carlos, Venus Jesoro, and Jelah Caceres.
Joseph del Rosario, the school’s photojournalism (Filipino) contestant, was awarded Best in Journalist Attire and made it to the top five of the Search for Mr. and Ms. RSSPC 2010.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jerry Noveno was adjudged second runner-up in the Search for the Outstanding School Paper Adviser of the Bicol region at the close of the four-day activity.
Mr. Noveno’s win was due to the various press con achievements of his students in the last five school years, his leadership in the division association of advisers, the technical services he has rendered in congressional, division, and regional journalism-related activities, impressive teaching performance, and related awards.
Mr. Noveno has been the adviser of The Bicol Scholar since it was established in 2003, when the paper was originally named Arab-adab before it was renamed The Bicol Scholar in 2004.
With Mr. Noveno, Sy and Bellen will join in the 2011 National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte in February next year.
