PSHS-BRC Guidance Office

Rationale:
The Guidance Program is an integral component of the school’s total educational program. It is developmental, proactive and preventive by design and includes sequential activities developed and implemented by the guidance counselor with the support of the administration, faculty and staff, students and parents.
The PSHS-BRC Guidance Office provides guidance services that will assist each individual in all aspects of life situations with the purpose of developing scholars who are well rounded in personality, ready to face challenges of everyday living as well as future endeavors. Hence, the guidance program helps identify the difficulties and needs of scholars by providing necessary skills in facing challenges with good and solid foundation of their self as a tool.

Objectives:

1.    Explore and develop scholars’ talents and potentials.
2.    Evolve scholars who are not only excellent in science, math, and technology but with global perspective and set of exemplary values.
3.    Develop among scholars a well-balanced personality through competencies in academic, career and personal areas.

Guidance Services:

1.    Counseling
A goal-oriented relationship between a professionally trained, competent counselor and an individual seeking help for the purpose of bringing about a meaningful awareness and understanding of the self and environment, improving planning and decision making, and formulating new ways of behaving, feeling and thinking for problem resolution and/or development growth (Gibson and Mitchell, 199).

2.    Testing and Profiling
Assist scholars in assessing their abilities, interests, skills and achievement. Test results and other data help direct scholars develop immediate and long-term goals and plans.

Provide enrichment programs for parents to enhance knowledge and skills regarding parenting teens who have special aptitude in science and       mathematics and to bring closer working relationship and coordination between the home and the school.
