PSHS-BRC holds 2012 Science Fair

Setting off a good start in the building of a culture of science in the region, the Philippine Science High School – Bicol Region Campus conducted the two-day 2012 Science Fair joined in by almost 400 students and science teachers from different high schools in the region last March 8-9.

Said activity was graced by PSHSSS Executive Director Josette Biyo who delivered an inspirational message during the opening program.

Among the activities were: Chemistry Magic, Water Rocket, Rain Gauge Showcase, the Robotics class exhibition and the presentation of selected investigatory projects, proposals and researches.

The IPs, proposals and researches were divided into six categories: Microbiology; Chemistry; Medicine and Health Sciences; Engineering; Animal and Plant Sciences and Computer Science.

Experts in each field provided suggestions, comments for the studies.

Science and technology teachers headed by Mr. Arniel C. Bare, organized the event.

This affair aims to extend the studies of Pisay students to the community adhering with the theme, PSHS Bicol Scholars: Building a Culture of Science.

The BICOL SCHOLAR Electronic Copy

The Bicol Scholar, adjudged Best Feature Page in the 2011 National Schools Press Conference in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte in April last year, releases its 15th issue. The paper covers June - December 2011 events and contains opinion and feature articles on the theme, "Promoting Digital Literacy through Campus Journalism." In the same way, Arab-Adab, the school's official publication in Filipino, has also released its ninth issue. The advisers, Mr. Jerry M. Noveno and Mrs. Erma M. Bue, are happy to share with you avid visitors to this website the downloadable copies of both papers. Enjoy reading!

Twenty-one scholars will compete in the Regional Secondary Schools Press Conference (RSSPC) next month after winning in the Division Secondary Schools Press Conference (DSSPC) at Rodriguez National High School, Pili, Camarines Sur, January 12-13.

The winners include Kendra Ivana Sy, first place in photo journalism (English); Ma. Khryster Lee Bellen, first place in copy reading and headline writing (English); Jayson Sime Jeremias, first place in copy reading and headline writing (Filipino); Odilon Picaso, second place in feature writing (Filipino); Julia Mae Casupang, third place, news writing (English); Pauline Marie Belmonte, fourth place in photo journalism (Filipino); Maria Larisse Hernandez, fourth place in feature writing (English); and Kim Bryan Bertiz, ninth place in editorial cartooning (English).

Except for Bertiz, the winners shall compete in the regionals.

Joseph Emmanuel Lomibao, Abigail Abragan, Ferna Del Simbulan, Zyeanne Millon, Angelica Jao, Dennis Joshua Dolot, and Nikko Capuno also got first place in radio broadcasting (English). Lomibao was also named Best Anchor, Abragan Best Reporter, Nikko Capuno Best Technical Scoring. The team was also awarded Best Script.

The radio broadcasting - Filipino team also got first place. Members were Joyce Baclili, Vitex Paguirigan, Jason Delos Reyes, Shaira Cariño, Ina Francis Balomaga, Claudette Cledera, and Lawrence Bernardo Perez. Baclili and Paguirigan were named Best Anchors, Perez Best Reporter, Cledera and Perez Best Infomercial, Delos Reyes Best Technical Scoring, and the whole team winning the Best Script award.

Both teams shall compete in the regional level of said event.

Meanwhile, Sy, the editor-in-chief of the Bicol Scholar, was declared outstanding campus journalist of the division of Camarines Sur. Her award is attested to by her consistent placement in the division and regional levels, remarkable academic performance, and exemplary leadership.

Mr. Jerry Noveno, adviser of the Bicol Scholar and trainer of press conference participants, also ranked first in the Outstanding School Paper Adviser search of the division.

Alongside Mr. Noveno, the other teachers present in the DSSPC were Mrs. Erma Bue, adviser of Arab-Adab (Filipino publication of the campus), and Ms. Mylene Oliver and Mrs. Mary Ann Templado as teacher-assistants.

Scholars win in division Math quiz

 

Eight scholars prevailed in the recently concluded Division Math Quiz held on November 25, 2011 at Ocampo National High School, Ocampo, Camarines Sur.


Freshmen Mae Pursia Orbon and Sheree Bianne-tha Noleen Mendez , Sophomores James Benedict Janda and Philip Salvadora;  Juniors Rasty Rastrullo and Pauleen Bea Labastida were declared first placers in Level I, II and III respectively. They will represent the division of Camarines Sur in the Regional Math Quiz.


Meanwhile, the duo of Christoper Jan Landicho and Alfred Jason Enaje won the second place for Level IV.


The contestants were trained by Ms. Mary Jane Mendevil, Ms. Ma. Linda Tres Reyes, Mr. Arniel Bare and Mr. Arnel Bermejo .

The writers of both the Bicol Scholar and the Arab-adab win in the 4th Congressional Secondary Schools Press Conference held on December 1, 2011 at San Rafael National High School, Tigaon, Camarines Sur. The one-day competition was participated in by campus journalists from the different schools in Partido area.


The first place winners were Arianne Pequeña (editorial writing, English); Allen Arteta (editorial writing, Filipino); Diosa Bernadette Retig (Newswriting, Filipino); Kendra Ivana Sy (Photojournalism, English); Pauline Marie Belmonte (photojournalism, Filipino); John Lawrence Euste (Sportswriting, English); Jan Nicolas Grageda(Editorial Cartooning, Filipino).


Jayson Sime Jeremias (Copy reading, Filipino), Julia Mae Casupang (News writing, English) and Kim Bryan Bertiz (Editorial cartooning, English) were second placers.


The third placers were Khryster Lee Bellen (Copy reading, English); Ma. Larisse Hernandez
( Feature writing, English) and Odilon Picaso (feature writing, Filipino).

 

The English and Filipino radio broadcasting were also first placers.

The winners were trained by Mr. Jerry Noveno and Ms. Erma Bue.

 

wro2011The Philippine Science High School – Bicol Region Campus (PSHS-BRC) Robo – Soccer Team added another feather on the school’s cap as it placed 5th out of 56 teams from 38 countries in the 2011 World Robotics Olympiad (WRO) held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) last November 18-20.

The school’s team consists of: Justin Daniel Belmonte, Rasty Rastrullo and Iran Brotamonte, all junior students.

One of Thailand’s team grabbed the gold medal, followed by Egypt, 2nd; South Korea, 3rd; and Taiwan, 4th.

The competition started with all teams divided into tables with four of five groups in each. The robot who scores the highest number of goals against all its opponents on the table qualifies to the Top 32.

Same procedures were done in choosing the Top 16 and the Top 8.
In the final round, the PSHS-BRC delegation was defeated by the team of Thailand with a score of 13-8.

The bottom four in the final 8 was ranked aacording to the most number of goals scored in all the rounds, with PSHS-BRC placing 5th.

The team was trained by Mr. Sevedeo J. Malate.

Pisay-Bicol reaches 13th milestone

The Philippine Science High School – Bicol Region Campus celebrates its 13th Foundation Day on October 29, 2011.Seeking to strengthen its framework and promote comradeship among its scholars, faculty and staff, parents, and alumni, the Foundation day showcases different activities that involve the entire PSHS-BRC family.
Undertakings include: Pep Squad competition, Popular Dance contest and the Medical and Dental Mission.
The Pep Squad competition is a contest among the four batches with 30 members from each.
The Popular Dance contest, on the other hand, is a presentation of the parents from their respective districts. In this competition, parents show off their talents along with their costumes.
Said activity is annually conducted and scheduled on the semestral breaks of the colleges so that alumni can join the activities.

PSHS-BRC to conduct Intrams ‘11

The Philippine Science High School- Bicol Region Campus (PSHS-BRC) will hold the Intramurals on October 25-27, 2011.
Mentioned undertaking will be highlighted by the 2011 Ms. PSHS-BRC Pageant, which will be participated in by three girls from each batch.
Said activity will include games in different sports namely: Basketball, Swimming, Futsal, Badminton, Table Tennis and Lawn Tennis; and board games like Chess, Scrabble and Game of the Generals.
Faculty and staff are also assigned to assist respective batches, as well as, play the games among themselves.
The championship will be received by the batch with the highest number of points from the victories in the games.
An annual event, the Intramurals seeks to harness the students’ skills in sports and take a break from the hectic schedule of both scholars and teachers.

Pisay Bicol scholars have successfully pulled off a Teacher’s Day program on October 5, 2011 at the Students’ Center, disguising the cards they made for their mentors as Values Education assignments.

The event was alive with intermissions presented by the talents of each batch. 2K15’s boys and girls danced and sung, respectively. The second years delivered a series of beautiful vocal presentations as did Batch 2013, the latter showing drumming expertise. The seniors danced and gave trivia about the teachers and ended their presentation with a message.

The teachers enjoyed themselves playing games organized by the Supreme Student Government (SSG), headed by Christoper Jan Landicho. The event was closed with a response message from the CISD Chief, Ms. Fely Buera. (Kristine Alvina)

PSHS-BRC leads Teach ‘N Run

In order to establish camaraderie among mentors in Partido District here in Camarines Sur, the PSHS-BRC through the initiative of Mr. Ricky S. Oropesa, a faculty and an Iron Man competitor, sponsored the first fun run dubbed as “Teach N’ Run” on October 1, 2011. This event is in connection with the World Teachers’ Day Celebration.

The said activity was participated in by more than a hundred teachers from Tigaon, Goa, San Jose, and Lagonoy Districts.  The event was divided into categories of 3K, 5K and 10K. Top runners were acknowledged and recognized during the closing ceremony and were given cash prizes.

Ms. Elsie G. Ferrer, Campus Director, in her closing message thanked and congratulated the participants, the winners, the organizers and the sponsors as well. She also challenged the teachers from Partido State University to hold the second fun run by next year. (Al Christian Gobres)
